FAIRFIELD, NJ––Although Middle Atlantic Products originally designed the new Duct Cool™ Series ventilation system for the Residential Installation market, potential customers quickly noticed that it solves a tricky cooling problem in broadcast
applications as well.
The key to this insight was the realization that smaller broadcast facilities, including radio stations, post production suites,
educational locations and other sites have several things in common with residential installations. For example, they may not have dedicated rooms, be cramped for space, and be in the process of converting to digital equipment that generates more heat than its analog counterpart.
Designed to address similar challenges in the residential market, it comes as no surprise that Duct Cool™ can solve the same
problems in broadcast applications. It efficiently removes heat from the equipment without adding noise at the equipment location.
So, in situations where the equipment is close to or in the same room as the operators or on-air talent, it can be cooled quietly and effectively.
The Duct Cool vent system fan can also be mounted remotely––12 to 25 feet away is the recommended distance––without
significant loss of performance. A temperature probe and thermostatic control save energy by only running the system when
needed.
The two primary components of the system are a powerful mixed-flow fan assembly and 25 feet of either 4” or 6” ID (inner
diameter) insulated flexible ducting depending on the model. Duct Cool is also unique in that it is supplied as a complete kit with attachment hardware, a special high-strength mounting plate, a temperature probe, and an air intake assembly.
According to Dean Wheelan, New Product Manager for the Duct Cool system, “The air intake assembly was originally designed
for installation in a drywall ceiling or equivalent locations, and this approach could work well for broadcast applications where
equipment is located in a closet or similar enclosed area. However, when we realized the new possibilities for Duct Cool, we
immediately started work on new rack tops that enable a direct attachment of the intake assembly to a rack.”
These new tops will be available for selected rack models by the end of May, and could be an ideal solution for broadcast
applications where the equipment rack is literally in the same room as the operators.
At the core of Duct Cool’s innovative design is the high power mixed-flow fan assembly that can be quickly and easily mounted horizontally or vertically, with or without the plate. Rubber vibration dampeners have been added to the mounting points to
isolate the unit for even quieter performance.
Featuring typically high quality, heavy-duty components throughout, Duct Cool can be easily installed with a variety of positioning
options. The standard models include a thermostat function that automatically turns on the unit on at 88º Fahrenheit and off at 85º.
An optional external thermostat is available for users that want more control of the operating temperature range.
The system is powered through a 9 foot electrical cord preassembled at the factory to facilitate installation or the unit can be
opened and hardwired.
