NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, September 15, 2003 - Sharon Prison, one of Israel's most technologically advanced correctional facilities, recently completed an additional 400-cell containment unit that included a cutting edge security and life safety system housed in over 140 bays of Middle Atlantic Products' Quiet-CoolT Security Consoles. With extensive paging, intercom, access control and video technologies installed in 20 locations throughout the prison's cell compound and common areas, the project required enclosure systems with highly-evolved cable and thermal management and quality construction that would endure the rigors of institutional life. The project was completed by Barkai Benny Brookstein Ltd. a leading provider of low-voltage systems to Israel's security and corporate AV markets and was the world's first application of a CrestronT touch panel control system in a prison environment, specially developed by CrestronT and Barkai's engineer teams. According to Ronen Brookstein, Managing Director, Barkai Benny Brookstein Ltd., the system required a security console line that kept pace with the technologies it housed. "Right from the outset, this project demanded a level of detail that simply did not exist in the security console marketplace except at Middle Atlantic Products," Brookstein explained. "The company listened closely to us, the contractor, the project consultant and representatives from the prison authority to ensure that the consoles met exactly with our specifications, the active technologies we expected to use and the specific applications within the prison." The Middle Atlantic Products Quiet-Cool Series Consoles, which includes desk and corner units, are configured in various arrays at Sharon Prison. The monitoring station at the central operations center includes multiple consoles whereas individual Quiet-Cool Consoles are located in decentralized stations throughout the facility. In addition to its console product line, Middle Atlantic Products manufacturers a wide range of vertical enclosure systems. The installation at Sharon Prison includes multiple SRS Series 19" slide out racks mounted within the Quiet-Cool Consoles, which provide enhanced access to equipment connections in space-restricted situations. The Middle Atlantic Products Quiet-Cool Series Consoles feature filtered air intakes and baffled fan exhausts coupled with air-sealing cable entries and gasketed doors. This ensures the equipment remains cool, extending product life and reducing maintenance cycles. Mark Tracy, Director of Marketing, Middle Atlantic Products noted the increasing application of hard drive-based technologies such as DVRs and hard drive arrays in the security and correctional environments. "With the increasing presence of complex, heat-sensitive digital technology in security applications, an active thermal management system is critical," Tracy said today. "The Middle Atlantic Products Quiet-Cool Series was designed with exactly these technologies in mind. The installation at Sharon Prison underscores our ability to keep this delicate equipment cool and functioning correctly in even the most demanding environments." The factory-welded 14-gauge steel construction of the Middle Atlantic Products Quiet-Cool Series Consoles not only provides superior strength, but also makes for quick installation in the field with no assembly required. According to Brookstein, there was initial skepticism to this approach among the systems integrators, but they soon came to realize the benefits of a fully welded construction. "Before Middle Atlantic Products, no manufacturer had thought to ship product fully-assembled and so when the consoles arrived on the job site, they looked rather alien." Brookstein said. "Once the contractors unpacked the consoles and began configuring the arrays, they immediately discovered the quality advantages and time savings that accrued - and also there were no missing parts to search for!" Founded in 1959, incorporated in 1969 and headquartered in Ramat-Gan, near Tel Aviv, Barkai Benny Brookstein Ltd. is ISO 9001:2000-registered and the exclusive Israeli distributor of major leading manufacturers in the industry, including TOA, Crestron, Biamp Systems, TSK and Middle Atlantic Products. Brookstein says his relationship with Middle Atlantic Products has been an exercise in cooperation that has enabled him to provide customers with significantly enhanced products and services. "At Middle Atlantic Products, they listen hard to understand the application and they work even harder to provide the correct solution," Brookstein says. "Our customers could not have been more pleased and we couldn't have had a better experience. As a result of this installation, we're about to begin work together on a number of ambitious new projects together."About Middle Atlantic Products Headquartered in Riverdale, New Jersey, Middle Atlantic Products, Inc. is an ISO 9001:2000-registered leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art steel enclosure systems for a wide range of applications, including the custom residential, commercial audio video, broadcast and post production, structured cabling, premise wiring and security markets.
